1. Metal Material

- Stainless Steel: Stainless steel waterproof nuts offer excellent corrosion resistance and are suitable for use in humid or corrosive environments. Common stainless steel grades include 304 and 316 stainless steel. 304 stainless steel waterproof nuts are widely used in generally humid and freshwater environments, such as outdoor lighting and general building water supply and drainage systems. 316 stainless steel waterproof nuts offer even greater corrosion resistance and are particularly suitable for harsh conditions such as seawater and chemical environments, such as offshore platform equipment and chemical pipeline connections.

 

- Copper: Copper waterproof nuts offer good conductivity and some corrosion resistance. Common materials include brass and bronze. Brass waterproof nuts are commonly used in electronic equipment and electrical devices because their excellent conductivity meets electrical connection requirements and can also be used in less harsh and humid environments. Bronze waterproof nuts offer relatively good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance and are suitable for applications requiring strength and corrosion resistance, such as connecting certain ship components.

 

- Carbon Steel: Carbon steel waterproof nuts offer high strength but relatively low corrosion resistance. They are typically treated with a surface treatment such as galvanizing to enhance corrosion resistance. Carbon steel waterproof nuts are often used in applications requiring high strength and in relatively dry environments, such as structural connections in general machinery. Galvanized carbon steel waterproof nuts offer a certain degree of resistance to humid environments and are therefore widely applicable.

 

2. Plastic Materials

- Nylon: Nylon waterproof nuts are lightweight, offer good insulation, and possess a certain degree of chemical resistance. They are commonly used in electronic equipment and instrumentation where weight is a concern and where high tensile forces are not required. Nylon waterproof nuts come in a variety of sizes to meet diverse installation requirements, and their self-lubricating properties ensure smooth threading.

 

- Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE): PTFE waterproof nuts offer excellent chemical stability, corrosion resistance, and a low coefficient of friction. They are suitable for applications requiring high chemical stability, such as chemical processing equipment and food processing equipment. Due to their low coefficient of friction, they are also used in applications requiring frequent disassembly and assembly. However, their relatively low mechanical strength makes them generally suitable for connections subject to low forces.

 

1. Rubber Seal Type

Many waterproof nuts utilize a rubber seal design to achieve waterproofing. Rubber seals come in various forms, with O-rings and gaskets being the most common. O-ring-sealed waterproof nuts feature a rubber O-ring inside or outside the nut. When the nut is tightened, the O-ring is squeezed and deformed, filling the gap between the nut and the bolt or connected component, thereby achieving waterproofing. This simple, effective sealing method is widely used in applications requiring general waterproofing, such as connecting common outdoor equipment.

 

2. Thread Seal Type

Thread-sealed waterproof nuts achieve waterproofing through a special thread design. For example, some waterproof nuts use a sealant to fill the thread gap. When the nut is screwed in, the sealant acts as a seal, preventing moisture from entering. Other waterproof nuts utilize trapezoidal threads or special thread profiles. These thread structures inherently offer excellent sealing properties, effectively preventing moisture from penetrating through thread gaps. Thread-sealed waterproof nuts are often used in applications where waterproofing is critical and installation space is limited, such as aerospace equipment and precision instruments.
